A Very Special Valentine’s Day Shoot (& The Perfect Dress for A Special Occasion)
A couple of weeks ago, I went out to Hendrick’s Park to take a couple of photos for a VERY special Valentine’s Day shoot. Now this shoot isn’t like any other shoot that I’ve had on Brunchinista. This shoot was not only favor for my dear friend Whitney who is seriously PHENOMENAL at capturing moments but also an out of box/comfort zone photoshoot for me. Since we met, she’s been hinting at a couples shoot but I’ve been hesitant because it’s not really “on brand”. I’ve tried keeping my personal stuff off my blog because I like to keep it fun and not mushy! Since it’s the month of love, I wanted to share the person I love the most with a gorgeous outdoor nature photoshoot that will give you all of the inspiration.
Now keep in mind I am NOT that girl who constantly talks about my boyfriend (S/O) and posts photos of him and I etc. Actually I’m the completely opposite. Most of my friends thought we eloped (laughing so hard I’m crying inside) when I sent them sneak peek photos, which was hysterical to me. Can’t a gal and her man just do a photoshoot for fun? No you can’t. LOL. Cause it’s ridiculous. Unless you’re newly engaged, getting married newly or having a baby there’s not much “reason” to take photos. I know I remember telling some people and feeling some sense of judgment and maybe almost a sense of envy? Whatever the case, we decided to do it for fun because after all why the HECK not. Trust me, I’m not attempting to emulate some form of #couplegoals that I saw other bloggers do or even trying to be that person. It’s not like that at all. I’m rolling my eyes at using that hashtag right now. I wanted something to capture our young love and have great photos we can frame and share with our closest friends and family.
Luke (aka le boyfriend) isn’t a huge fan of taking photos so I was a little nervous about how it would go. But how WRONG was I. He had me cracking up the entire time (not surprising he’s a goofball). LITERALLY it was the most magical and fun photoshoot I have ever done. I was being my usual self like (omg no I’m not gonna stand on that log I may fall!) His response: it’s fine I got you. Don’t worry. He was a natural. It was hard NOT to smile which for me is huge because I always undeniably making a resting b face in most of my photos or as he mentioned “I don’t focus on my face most of the time.”
Many of you may not know this but I moved to Oregon for love. Which is literally wild to me. I’ve never been that girl to take risks or make a leap of faith for a man. But the only thing I knew that was right was taking the leap. I didn’t want to lose him or worse do long distance and ultimately break up. Logically I thought well if it doesn’t work out then at least I took a chance and I won’t ever wonder what if. Oregon has been a crazy journey. I’ve learned so much about him, love and myself. When things have gotten tough, I know I can count on my lumberjack to be sunshine when I’m feeling grey. Sounds crazy and totally vomit worthy but I think it’s important to have a connection like that or to experience it at least once in your life. I use to be the kind of gal to actually not want a boyfriend/marriage etc. I guess that cheesy saying when you find someone blah blah blah…. I don’t actually know what it is but something about “when you know it’s right you just know. I’m thankful that he’s been extremely supportive of everything I do including the blog and has helped me in any way he can. Usually it means patiently waiting as I take photos of food.
So here we are, a year and a half later, looking into each others eyes with so much love. Are you over the sap yet? I think having someone as a companion is a beautiful thing. Aside from the fact that you don’t get to die alone and all that stuff (see I’m just full of the romance), that person first and foremost is your friend. They make you laugh, they make you cry. They put you out of your comfort zone and challenge you. They make you angry and sometimes they may disappoint you. They make you experience new things and experiencing the world with them makes everyday amazing! But most of all, they make you feel something that you can’t even explain. It’s definitely something that I personally haven’t experienced with anyone else and recommend for everyone out there to allow themselves to be open to new things and relationships. All I know is you NEVER know where your life is going to turn. Whether it’s a friendship, someone you just met or a new love, life is crazy and unexpected. So you might as well enjoy the moment. Even if it’s absolutely ridiculous and people will judge you because we live in a world where there’s no “right” amount of time for you to meet someone. It happens when you least expect it. Cliche but I swear to you, as much as I hate that saying, you won’t realize how true it is until it happens to you.
Whether you’re single, dating or happily in love and in a relationship, it’s important to love yourself. I know it ain’t easy believe me but you’ll really be able to give more of yourself if you do. And if you’re single go out there and have the time of your life. Date people, experience the beauty it is to get to learn something new about yourself. You’ll get your heartbroken, probably a lot, but if you find someone who’s great, before thinking there’s someone better out there, explore the idea and let yourself go. Coming from someone who has no concept of going with the flow, it’s the only advice I can give you. Trust me, it’s for the best.
So this post is dedicated to my lumberjack, my love and my Valentine. I hope I’ve inspired all of you out there to take a leap of faith and go out there and fall in love. You never know who you may meet!
If you’re interested in where we took these photos it was at Hendrix Park in Eugene, Oregon. The perfect place for a engagement or wedding shoot. It’s got that “fairy vibes” going for it in the midst of a gorgeous forest. Thank you Whitney for capturing this special shoot. She’s one of the realest gals I’ve met and makes you feel absolutely comfortable while shooting. For those wondering, I got this dress from Vici Collection and paired it with flats from Vince Camuto.
